SANTACO condemns taxi drivers intimidating motorists

PRETORIA – The South African National Taxi Council denies allegations that it instructed the public not to use private vehicles to transport family members.

Several social media users have claimed that the council ordered motorists to refrain from carrying more than one passenger in their private cars.

Santaco spokesperson Rebecca Phala insists that they have never issued any order of this nature to its patrollers or any other employees within the industry. 

In the same breath Phala says they did not instruct anyone to impose the use of taxi services as opposed to customers using their own private vehicles.

Phala acknowledged the reports and views them as acts of criminality. 

As a result of this she says they will urgently go to the areas where they have been getting these reports, establish the people who are behind these acts of then facilitate disciplinary processes.
