Three Windsor drivers were charged on the weekend after police caught them allegedly driving 50-plus kilometres over the speed limit.

Officers with the Windsor Police Service traffic enforcement unit stopped the vehicles and charged the drivers with stunt driving.

Two drivers were caught speeding on Wyandotte Street East at Sterling Crescent.

A 22-year-old male driver was recorded allegedly travelling at 103 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

A 35-year-old male driver was recorded allegedly travelling at 104 km/h in the same 50 km/h zone.

The third stop occurred on the E.C. Row Expressway at Central Avenue.

An 18-year-old male driver was recorded allegedly travelling at 160 km/h where the speed limit is 100 km/h.

All three drivers had their licences suspended for 30 days and their vehicles impounded for 14 days.

Additional penalties — including fines between $2,000-$10,000 — may apply once the cases proceed to court.

A stunt driving charge can be laid by police if a driver is caught going 40 kilometres or more over the speed limit, in an area with speeds under 80 km/h. If the speed limit is 80 km/h or more, stunt driving charges can be laid if a vehicle is travelling more than 50 kilometres above the limit.
