Lagos: Passengers injured as commercial bus catches fire

A BRT bus caught fire in Lagos, on Wednesday morning, leaving several passengers injured. 

The incident occurred inward Majidun along Ikorodu Road when the bus suddenly burst into flames while in motion.

Fortunately, passengers quickly evacuated the vehicle and moved to safety.

Those who were injured were trapped while struggling to exit the bus.

Although the exact number of injured passengers is not confirmed, it is reported that no lives were lost in the incident.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the bus was traveling along the dedicated BRT corridor on Ikorodu Road, when it suddenly caught fire.

“It was like a scene from a horror movie,” said an eyewitness who identified herself as Shade Jimoh.

“The bus was moving, and then suddenly, flames started coming out from the engine compartment of the bus. People were screaming and running for their lives.”

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but many attributed it to mechanical fault.

One of the passengers, who escaped unhurt, said the incident has raised concerns about the safety of public transportation in Lagos.

Lagos State Fire and Rescue officials confirmed the incident, saying the vehicle caught fire around 6.30am.

Shakiru Amodu, an official of the State Fire and Rescue Service, disclosed that the the Service got a call about the incident around 6.48am and that rescue officials arrived at the scene around 7.01am.

“The location of the fire incident is at Majidun Boma filling station. However, the situation is under control,” he added.
