BYD unveils “Super e-Platform” that charges electric vehicles in 5 minutes – as fast as refueling a petrol car.
New Super e-Platform features flash-charging batteries, a 30,000 RPM motor, and silicon carbide (SiC) power chips.
BYD’s new “Super e-Platform” technology will first be available on the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV.
Cars equipped with “flash-charging batteries” can achieve 400 km (249 miles) of range with 5 minutes of charging.
BYD Co. shares jumped to a record after the Chinese automaker launched its new ‘Super e-Platform’, featuring flash-charging batteries, a 30,000 RPM motor, and new silicon carbide (SiC) power chips.
“The ultimate solution is to make charging as quick as refueling a gasoline car,” Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, candidly stated at the launch event.
BYD said cars equipped with “flash-charging batteries” can achieve 400 kilometers (roughly 249 miles) of range with just 5 minutes of charging – which is as fast as it takes to refuel a regular car with petrol.

“With the support of ultra-high voltage (1000V) and ultra-high current (1000A), BYD ‘Flash Charging Battery’ can achieve the world’s largest mass-produced charging power of 1 megawatt (1000kW).”
BYD’s new “Super e-Platform” technology will first be available on the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, which are now open for pre-order in China.
“The Han L equipped with the Flash Charging Battery can achieve 400 kilometers of range with just 5 minutes of charging,” BYD said in a statement.
“In the past, refueling a gasoline car took 5-8 minutes. Now, for the same range, electric vehicles also take only 5-8 minutes to charge, ultimately making the charging time as short as refueling time,” he adds.
