The Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly has issued a five-day ultimatum to individuals who leave vehicles along the roadside under the guise of repairs, warning that such vehicles must be removed or face strict penalties.
The directive forms part of a larger decongestion initiative led by Municipal Chief Executive Frank Nkansah, aimed at reclaiming public roads and restoring order in the municipality.
“We are set to launch a decongestion exercise to address the unauthorised occupation of streets and public spaces. Many of our main roads have been turned into open-air garages, creating traffic congestion and inconveniencing residents,” Mr. Nkansah said during an inspection tour.
He described the practice as a public nuisance and ordered that all such vehicles be relocated to proper garages without delay.
To enforce the directive, the Assembly will deploy municipal guards beginning Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Any abandoned vehicles found on the streets will be towed, and offenders will be sanctioned in accordance with local bylaws.
Mr. Nkansah reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to promoting discipline, cleanliness, and public safety.
He urged residents to cooperate with the initiative and support efforts to create a more organized and livable environment.
As part of his tour, the MCE also visited an unauthorised dumping site near the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) at Ayigbe Town, close to the Agbogbloshie market.
He expressed alarm over the extent of illegal dumping in the area, warning that such practices pose serious environmental and public health threats.
“This is completely unacceptable. The sanitation situation requires urgent national attention and a coordinated response,” he said.
While commending the efforts of local authorities, Mr. Nkansah emphasized that solving Ghana’s waste management challenges will require active collaboration between government agencies, the private sector, and the general public.
He also revealed plans to implement stricter measures to curb illegal dumping and improve sanitation across Ablekuma Central.
