Apple’s new MagSafe battery will only work with the iPhone Air

Those interested in the other iPhone 17 models are out of luck

If you wanted to use Apple’s new MagSafe battery with the iPhone 17 series, you’re out of luck.

On its online store, the tech giant confirmed that the latest MagSafe battery accessory is only compatible with the new, ultra-thin iPhone Air. In fact, the product page for the accessory is even titled “iPhone Air MagSafe Battery” in case there was any confusion. This means that those looking to pick up any of the other 17 series phones will need to turn to third-party MagSafe equivalents.

When attached to the iPhone Air, the MagSafe battery will provide up to 65 per cent additional charge and up to 12W of fast wireless charging. It can be used to charge either the phone itself or smaller accessories via USB-C.

If you’re going with the iPhone Air and want the MagSafe battery, it’ll set you back $139. It’s now available for purchase on Apple’s website.

The iPhone Air was one of four phones revealed during Tuesday’s annual fall Apple hardware event, the others being the iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.
