‘When officers placed the vehicle in park and woke the driver, they saw drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle,’ police said
Yesterday at around 10 a.m. Sault Police officers charged a 34-year-old after a driver was found asleep in a vehicle in the middle of Wilson Street near Wellington Street East.
“When officers placed the vehicle in park and woke the driver, they saw drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle,” police said in a news release.
Upon speaking with the driver, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs.
“The accused was arrested and transported to the Police Services Building. An evaluation was conducted by a drug recognition expert, who determined the accused was impaired by drug,” police said.
Jamie Wood is charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration
- Dangerous Operation
- Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence (under the Highway Traffic Act)
Wood was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 22.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
