General Motors (GM) to introduce eyes-off driving in the flagship Cadillac Escalade IQ electric SUV in 2028.
GM to integrate LiDAR, radar and cameras into the vehicle to provide capable eyes-off autonomous system.
When the system in activated, turquoise-colored lights will signal that the IQ electric SUV is driving autonomous.

General Motors (GM) held its ‘GM Forward’ media event in New York on Wednesday, where it announced plans to bring eyes-off driving to market in 2028, debuting on the flagship Cadillac Escalade IQ electric SUV.
When the system in activated, a special turquoise-colored lights integrated into the exterior mirrors will let other drivers know that the Cadillac Escalade IQ electric SUV is driving autonomous.

“Turquoise lighting across the dashboard and exterior mirrors will signal when the system is active — a visual cue that it’s safe to sit back, read, or catch up on messages while the vehicle handles the drive,” GM said.
Unlike vision-only self-driving systems, GM said Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), radar and cameras will be integrated into the vehicle’s design to provide a “safe, reliable, and highly capable eyes-off autonomous system.”
Since its debut in 2017, GM’s Super Cruise has expanded to 23 vehicle models, allowing customers to drive 700 million hands-free miles with zero reported crashes attributed to the system.

At the ‘GM Forward’ media event, the automaker also announced that, beginning next year, its vehicles will feature conversational AI with Google Gemini – “making it possible to talk to your car as naturally as you would to a fellow passenger”.
In the future, GM plans introduce its own AI, that will allow owners to explain one-pedal driving to their new vehicle, spot a maintenance issue early, or find the perfect place for dinner en route to your destination.
