The Ford Puma is now the UK’s most popular car, after 55,4888 new models were registered in 2025.

It comes as new car registrations in the UK topped two million for the first time since the pandemic.

The hybrid Puma, known for being spacious and easy to drive, saw 4,680 registrations in December 2025 alone.

The Qashqai was third in the rankings with 41,141 registrations in 2025.

Second place was secured by the Kia Sportage, with 47,788 registrations in the past 12 months.

The Sportage is a familiar sight in the family SUV market, and like the Puma, it uses petrol hybrid technology, making it a low-cost option.

Notably, electric vehicles continued to grow in popularity in the UK market, even though none made it into the top 10 most registered vehicles.

Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that electric vehicles dominated the UK car market in 2025, with battery electric cars seeing a rapid rise.

Battery Electric Vehicles accounted for 32 per cent of the UK’s registrations in December 2025, while hybrid electric vehicles grew 7.2 per cent over the year, making up 13.9 per cent of the market.

Plug-in hybrids, the fastest-growing category, jumped by 34.7 per cent and accounted for 11.1 per cent of total car registrations.

The wider market also showed signs of recovery, with a third consecutive year of growth in total car registrations.

Figures surpassed the two million mark for the first time since the pandemic, with 2,020,520 new cars registered.
