An elderly couple was assaulted and robbed during a daylight attack at the underground car park at MovieTowne, Invaders Bay, Port of Spain, on Friday.
At around 1.38 p.m. a 63-year-old woman and her 71-year-old husband parked their Hyundai Santa Fe at the car park and exited the vehicle when they were approached by two men. One of the suspects was armed with what appeared to be a firearm.
Police said the armed suspect attempted to snatch the woman’s handbag, causing her to become fearful. There was a struggle, during which she felt a sharp pain to her right forearm. Both victims were struck to the head with the firearm.
The suspects escaped with the woman’s navy blue leather handbag and fled the scene in a dark blue Nissan Note.
The stolen handbag contained two books, a bunch of keys including house keys and a vehicle key, a driver’s permit, $2,500 in cash, and a dark blue metallic iPhone with stickers on the back, housed in a transparent case.
The victims were later taken by relatives to the Serpentine Medical Centre, St Clair, where they were treated by medical personnel. The male victim received treatment for a head injury, while the female victim was treated for injuries to her head and right forearm.
