OnePlus might be creating a ‘people’s phone’ with a massive battery

The device is set to sport a huge 9000 mAh battery

A new post on Threads from leaker Abhishek Yadav is showing that OnePlus is gearing up to launch yet another phone for global markets.

Codenamed “Volkswagen”, the device is set to carry the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (intended for upper to mid-range devices) alongside an architecture similar to the two-year-old Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. As Android Authority points out, the architecture could give an idea of where this device sits in OnePlus’ lineup.

The new device is set to feature a 165Hz refresh rate display, like the OnePlus 15 and 15R. The display is also set to come with 1.5K resolution, identical to the 15 and 15R. Interestingly enough, the device is also reportedly getting a dual-rear camera setup.

The phone packs a 9,000mAh battery and supports 80W fast wired charging. To add some context, the OnePlus 15 (which we gave the ‘Best Battery’ award in our 2025 Canadian Smartphone Awards) only has a 7,300 mAh battery with similar 80W charging speeds.

There are questions about why the device is codenamed after the German automaker, but the most likely explanation is that the name “Volkswagen” translates to “people’s car.”

As for the device’s actual name, there are some speculations surrounding that. Android Authority points out that this could be the OnePlus Nord 6, as Yadav hinted on X that it could be true, but nothing is set in stone yet. Interestingly, the Nord 5 did feature a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a 144Hz display, and a 6800 mAh battery- so the upgrade does make sense.

There is also a rumoured OnePlus Turbo with the same 165Hz display and the same chipset as the rumoured OnePlus Volkswagen- with a new post on X from leaker Anvin showing similar battery specs as the Volkswagen. In the same post, Anvin also spotted a Geekbench listing for the phone with model number PLU110 (Turbo), which sports the same 9,000 mAh battery and chip.

As Android Authority and Anvin have pointed out, the OnePlus Turbo will likely remain a China-exclusive product, with a new name for a global release. The Turbo is set to be unveiled as early as Jan. 2026.
