Rivian has started constructing its second production facility in Georgia. The $5 billion factory will employ about 7,500 people and start rolling out electric cars in 2028.

The massive plant straddles two counties, Walton and Morgan, east of Atlanta, and spans 2,000 acres, equivalent to approximately 1,500 football fields. Rivian will manufacture 200,000 EVs per year at the site, including the R2 and R3 SUVs, as the company pushes into the more affordable segment.

The project is backed by a $1.5 billion incentive package from the state. Rivian also secured a $6.6 billion federal loan earlier this year before the current administration took over.

Rivian will develop about 20 million square feet of space, including facilities such as a test track, training center, and a research and design building. It is one of the most significant economic development projects in the state.

Rivian will host a community event on Sunday, featuring food, live music, and vehicle test drives, as a way to get to know the neighbors. The company executives will hold a formal groundbreaking event on Tuesday, with state and local officials in attendance.
