Stellantis has recalled 320,065 Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential battery failure that could cause a fire, according to the NHTSA.

The US vehicle safety regulator has warned owners of these vehicles to park their cars outdoors and away from buildings until further notice and not to charge the batteries until the manufacturer provides a solution, Reuters reports.

The statement emphasizes that this measure is taken as a precautionary safety measure, highlighting that there have been no substantial reports of incidents linked to this malfunction up to now.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that it will diligently oversee the unfolding situation, emphasizing that Stellantis must develop a lasting solution. Only then will the vehicles be safe for charging and resuming their normal usage.

The decision comes just a month after Stellantis recalled more than 298,000 cars in the United States in October over a potential risk of self-driving vehicles.
