Two police officers and two police canines were injured after a marked police vehicle overturned during an early morning operation in Penal on Saturday.
According to reports, around 2:40 a.m., Acting Corporal Ramkissoon of the Point Fortin Canine Unit was driving a police SUV along Penal Rock Road, in the company of Constable Boodoo and two canines, Diesel and Alpha, when an oncoming vehicle reportedly veered into their path near Angel’s Furniture Workshop.
To avoid a head-on collision, Ramkissoon swerved left, causing the vehicle to run off the road and overturn in a grassy area.
Both officers were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment. Ramkissoon sustained injuries to both arms, right shoulder, and head. Boodoo suffered head trauma, whiplash, and a suspected spinal spasm. They were both undergoing CT scans on Saturday morning.
The police vehicle suffered extensive damage and was wrecked to the Penal Police Station. The canines were transported to the Caroni Canine Unit for medical examination by a vet.
Sgt Rajkumar is leading the investigation.
