The brand-new KEF Muo Bluetooth speaker measures 8.5 x 3.2 x 2.3 inches, which makes it about 0.8 inches higher and wider than the Sonos Roam 2. In return, it promises a significantly longer battery life of up to 24 hours. The case is IP67-certified and thus waterproof, which turns the Muo into a direct competitor to the Sonos Roam.

However, KEF has omitted two of its competitor’s most notable features. First, the KEF Muo can only be charged via USB-C, a wireless charging is not an option. Second, the speaker connects exclusively via USB-C or Bluetooth. While the speaker supports aptX Adaptive, it does not have WiFi. Unlike the Sonos Roam 2, the KEF Muo cannot be used at home via AirPlay or as part of a multi-room audio setup.

KEF has included a 20 mm tweeter and a 58 x 117 mm woofer, along with a 10-watt and 30-watt amplifier. This should allow the speaker to reproduce frequencies from 43Hz to 20kHz at a volume of 90dB. The sound can be customized via the KEF Connect smartphone app. Two KEF Muo can be combined into a stereo pair, and the speaker can be used as a hands-free device for smartphones.

Price and availability

KEF Muo is available in the manufacturer’s online store for $249 in a total of seven different colors options. This makes the speaker significantly more expensive than the Sonos Roam 2, which currently retails for $177 on Amazon.
