Windsor police ask public for help following car theft

Windsor police are seeking the public’s help following an auto theft and an attempted auto theft on the city’s west side.

Officers responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on June 26 around 8 a.m. in the 5200 block of Malden Road.

Preliminary investigation showed the vehicle was stolen from a residence in the 3600 block of Girardot Street before being abandoned in a ditch along Malden.

About an hour later, police received another report about an attempted vehicle theft at a residence in the 1000 block of Brock Street.

Police said a suspect had attempted to steal the car and in the process, damaged the ignition, before fleeing the scene.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

Police are asking residents and business owners in the area bordered by Prince Road, Tecumseh Road, Huron Church Road and Millen Street to review video surveillance or dash cam footage, specifically in the early morning hours of June 26, for any evidence that may assist with the investigation.
