The Xiaomi 15S Pro offers a similarly strong overall package as the Pro model. This is hardly surprising, as everything apart from the chipset remains the same. In its effort to become more independent and to offer all components in-house, Xiaomi is on a very promising path with its XRing O1. Considering Google’s work with its Tensor series, Xiaomi’s SoC debut is genuinely remarkable. While the 15S Pro with the XRing O1 is slightly less powerful than the 15 Pro with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, it offers more consistent performance overall.
Anyone willing to accept compromises in update support and availability will get a great smartphone with solid hardware. However, we see no clear reason to choose the 15S Pro over the Xiaomi 15 Pro.
Pros
+ long battery life
+ premium look and feel
+ powerful SoC
+ fast charging
+ bright 1,440p display
Cons
– limited availability (no eSIM etc.)
– no guaranteed software updates
– high thermal output

The Xiaomi 15S Pro is a new variant of the existing Pro model, but aside from the new processor and an optional carbon look, it remains largely unchanged. According to Xiaomi, the textured surface is intended to resemble dragon scales, or at least that is what the name implies. While the 15 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, the S version in the 15 series uses Xiaomi’s own XRing O1 chip.

The design and dimensions of the Xiaomi 15S Pro are identical to those of the standard Pro model. It features a water-resistant chassis rated to the IP68 standard. High-quality materials and excellent build precision give this premium smartphone a refined and sophisticated feel. With a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent, the 15S Pro also makes efficient use of its front surface area.
The matte finish on the back helps minimise visible fingerprints. Xiaomi uses Dragon Crystal Glass, and the aluminium frame transitions seamlessly into the glass body. In the hand, the 15S Pro feels exceptionally cohesive and well balanced.

The Xiaomi smartphone offers a well-rounded feature set including USB OTG, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, an infrared blaster, and a UWB chip. It also includes a high-speed USB port with 3.2 Gen 2 specification, which supports wired video output. According to the manufacturer, sensitive data such as biometric information and passwords are protected by a dedicated in-house security chip built into the device.
The Xiaomi 15S Pro ships with the second-generation HyperOS and comes with Play Protect certification. Xiaomi remains vague about software update policies for the Chinese market. At the time of testing, the device was running security patches from May 2025.
As is typical for the manufacturer’s Chinese models, Google services are not supported out of the box. Instead, Xiaomi’s own ecosystem and local Chinese services are used.
However, Google frameworks are preinstalled, meaning users only need to install the Play Store manually via Xiaomi’s app store. The system language can be set to Chinese or English. A German language pack is not available, which may be a drawback for German-speaking users considering an import.
The packaging of the Xiaomi 15S Pro is made of cardboard, and the device itself is wrapped in paper. Xiaomi does not provide detailed information about the materials used or their recycling rates, but the company states that it is increasing the use of recycled materials across all its smartphones.
Although the 15S Pro is unlikely to see a global release, it offers broad support for both 5G and 4G mobile network bands. All frequency bands relevant for German-speaking regions are supported, making the device viable for import.
Equipped with Wi-Fi 7, the Xiaomi smartphone achieves peak transfer speeds of up to 1,800 Mbps when tested with the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 router. This is made possible by the device’s ability to operate in the 6 GHz band. However, upload speeds during testing were noticeably lower.

To assess real-world positioning accuracy, we recorded a short cycling route for comparison using the Garmin Venu 2. The route data from the Xiaomi smartphone shows some minor deviations in detail but overall provides accurate location tracking.
Thanks to dual band support for satellite systems, positioning is both highly precise with accuracy around two metres and very quick.
The Xiaomi 15S Pro is equipped with four microphones and supports two physical nano SIM cards. eSIM functionality is not available in the Chinese version. However, the device does support VoLTE and calls over domestic Wi-Fi networks.
Voice quality is good, with voices reproduced clearly and at an adequate volume.

The rear-facing triple camera setup with Leica branding remains unchanged from the Pro model . The 50 MP main camera uses a 1/1.31-inch sensor and features optical image stabilisation. It delivers strong detail and very fast capture performance. However, colour accuracy shows occasional deviations, which may disappoint at this price point.
The Leica periscope lens offers a 50 MP resolution with OIS, enabling 5x lossless zoom and maintaining good sharpness even at up to 10x magnification. The 14 mm ultra-wide-angle camera is somewhat less convincing, though overall image quality remains acceptable for the price bracket.
For video recording, both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are supported. Footage can be captured in 8K at 30 frames per second, or in UHD at up to 60 frames per second.

The box includes a 90-watt fast charger, a protective case and a USB cable. A screen protector is also pre-applied. Our review sample from Trading Shenzhen additionally came with an EU power adapter and a USB OTG adapter, extending the standard contents for the Chinese version.
The imported device comes with a 12-month warranty. This applies specifically to our review unit sourced from Trading Shenzhen and may differ depending on the country of purchase. In the event of a warranty claim, returns can be sent to a German shipping address provided by the retailer.
Inputs on the OLED display are registered quickly and precisely, even at the edges of the touchscreen. The manufacturer specifies a touch sampling rate of up to 300 Hz. The 15S Pro offers smooth handling throughout, and the X-axis vibration motor provides crisp haptic feedback.
For authentication, the Xiaomi smartphone uses a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor integrated into the display, which reliably recognises registered fingerprints. Biometric face recognition is also available, though only via a relatively insecure 2D face unlock function.

The 6.73-inch display on the 15S Pro supports a 120 Hz refresh rate and offers a sharp 1440p resolution. Thanks to LTPO technology, the Xiaomi phone can reduce the refresh rate down to 1 Hz to conserve power.
In our tests, the panel reached a peak brightness of 3,142 cd/m² using the realistic APL18 pattern, coming very close to the advertised maximum of 3,200 nits.
As with typical OLED displays, Xiaomi uses PWM to control brightness. The device operates at a high PWM frequency of 1,920 Hz, as per the manufacturer. However, we observed baseline flickering at approximately 90 Hz. Oscilloscope measurements indicated consistent amplitude across the entire brightness range.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)
ℹ
To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession – a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.
Screen flickering / PWM detected | 91.4 Hz Amplitude: 38 % |
![]() |
|
The display backlight flickers at 91.4 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) . The frequency of 91.4 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8356 (minimum: 5 – maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. |
Measurement series with fixed zoom level and different brightness settings (The amplitude curve at minimum brightness looks flat, but this is due to the scaling. The info box shows the enlarged version of the amplitude at minimum brightness.)
The range of display settings is impressively extensive. In addition to various colour profiles, users can also adjust the colour temperature and fine-tune individual parameters. In the “Original Pro” profile, colour deviations are barely noticeable.
Display Response Times
ℹ
Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Outdoors, the 15S Pro leaves a strong impression. Even under direct sunlight, display content remains clearly visible. Viewing angle stability is also excellent, with no cause for criticism.
The XRing O1 chip is manufactured using a 3 nm process and reaches clock speeds of up to 3.9 GHz. In Geekbench, the Xiaomi CPU performs at a similar level to the Snapdragon 8 Elite found in the Pro model, although the Xiaomi 15 Pro still holds a slight advantage.
Graphics processing is handled by an integrated Immortalis G925 with 16 cores, which shows strong results in GPU benchmarks and does not need to shy away from the competition. While the 15S Pro does not outperform a Galaxy S25 Ultra in demanding GFXBench tests, it still achieves 50 FPS at 4K resolution.

This is how Notebookcheck is testing
Every year, Notebookcheck independently reviews hundreds of laptops and smartphones using standardized procedures to ensure that all results are comparable. We have continuously developed our test methods for around 20 years and set industry standards in the process. In our test labs, high-quality measuring equipment is utilized by experienced technicians and editors. These tests involve a multi-stage validation process. Our complex rating system is based on hundreds of well-founded measurements and benchmarks, which maintains objectivity. Further information on our test methods can be found here.

I have always been very passionately interested in mobile technologies, especially smartphones. Being a tech enthusiast means the half-life of my devices isn’t exactly long, and being the latest hardware is not enough to suffice as the manufacturer and operating system play a minor role – the most important aspect for me is that the device is state-of-the-art. After posting for Mobi Test I joined Notebookcheck in 2016, where I have been pursuing my enthusiasm for technology by reviewing the latest smartphone, tablet, and accessory trends.

My main responsibility as an editorial assistant is maintaining the Library section, which aggregates reviews from other publications and channels. In addition, my daily breakfast is Notebookcheck’s long list of new content, which I comb through to select the most interesting topics for translation from English to French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch.”
