A social media post showed numerous police vehicles on Wellington Street East on Sunday morning
This weekend’s heavy police presence along Wellington Street East was triggered by a false alarm, officials say.
On Sunday morning, multiple police vehicles were seen along Wellington between Pim Street and East Street, responding to a weapons call in the area.
“Officers responded to a report of someone with a firearm inside a multi-unit residential building,” said Lincoln Louttit, manager of corporate communications with Sault Police.
A social media post showed a heavy police presence in the area, with people speculating on what caused the call.
In the end, police said it was a false alarm.
“After gaining entry to the building no firearm was located. No arrests were made and no charges were laid.”
