PUC and partners are inviting residents and stakeholders to attend a community open house to learn more about proposed battery energy storage projects designed to enhance local reliability, support electrification, and improve the efficiency of Sault Ste. Marie’s electricity system.
The open house will give residents an opportunity to learn about the projects, speak directly with representatives, and share their feedback. PUC is engaging with the community early in the planning process to ensure residents have access to information and a voice in project development.
Event Details:
- Date: Wednesday, Nov. 5
- Time: 5 to 7 p.m.
- Location: John Rhodes Community Centre, 260 Elizabeth St.
The proposed battery storage projects reflect PUC’s commitment to advancing Ontario’s longterm energy goals by strengthening local reliability and supporting the transition to cleaner power. Developed under the Independent Electricity System Operator’s (IESO) Long-Term 2 (LT2) Capacity Stream, the proposed projects, if successful, will add new energy storage capacity to help meet Ontario’s growing electricity needs.
Battery storage systems work by storing electricity during off-peak periods and supplying it when demand is high helping to balance the grid, improve efficiency, and reduce overall system strain.
The facilities are proposed across five locations throughout Sault Ste. Marie and will be designed and operated to the highest industry safety standards, incorporating advanced monitoring, fire protection, and environmental safeguards to ensure safe and reliable operation within the community.
PUC encourages all interested residents to attend and participate in the discussion. Residents can also find more information and provide feedback by visiting www.pucbatterystorage.com.
