Officers from the Prince Edward County OPP detachment were called to the scene on Loyalist Parkway (Highway 33) at about 8:15 a.m. Monday.

According to police, an eastbound pickup truck had left the road and hit some trees. The driver, the lone occupant, managed to exit the vehicle after the crash, police said, but first responders found him close to the truck. He was rushed to hospital absent of vital signs and was pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
