The Xiaomi 16 could well be one of three flagship smartphones that Xiaomi releases this month. In the meantime, a well-regarded leaker has summarised what to expect from Xiaomi’s next compact flagship ahead of schedule.
Xiaomi is expected to deliver its next-generation flagships later this month in China. Based on recent leaks and rumours, the company will introduce a successor to not just the Xiaomi 15 (curr. $919 on Amazon) but also a replacement for the Xiaomi 15 Pro and a new ‘Pro Max’ offering to target Apple and its new iPhone 17 Pro Max more closely than prior generations.
In the meantime Xiaomi will be releasing the Xiaomi 15T and Xiaomi 15T Pro globally, the launch event for which it has scheduled on September 24. Nonetheless, leaker Yogesh Brar has decided to focus on the Xiaomi 16 in his latest specification round-up.
Writing on X, the leaker reiterates that the Xiaomi 16 will be one of the first devices to launch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. Paired with a 7,000 mAh battery that supports 50 W wireless and 100 W wired charging, the Xiaomi 16 will also depart from its predecessor with IP69 water and dust resistance like the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus before it.
Conversely, Xiaomi’s next compact flagship will line up with a 32 MP front-facing camera and a trio of 50 MP rear-facing sensors just like its predecessor. Apparently, Xiaomi will be replacing the ISOCELL JN1 with the newer ISOCELL JN5 for a telephoto camera upgrade, too. Based on previous rumours, the Xiaomi 16 will gain a new 1/1.3-inch primary camera as well; Yogesh Brar does not acknowledge as much in his post, though.
